Week 14

I just want to fast forward over the next three days and just get on the plane to Michigan!  I am not really in the mood to do two night shifts before leaving.  I'm in vacation mode!  And going to Michigan is the closest thing I get to a vacation this year.

Not much to report otherwise.  All my blood work that I had done recently came out well and there are no concerns from any of the doctors.  My next appointment is in two Fridays after I get back home from Michigan.  Still feeling good though I did throw up yesterday in a guttural response when Turnip threw up inside the house.  I've never done that before and I don't even do that at work when patients throw up!  Oh well, I just have a super sensitive stomach when it comes to gross dog things now.

I've got a lot to do before I leave and not much to say, so I'll just leave this post short and sweet.

13 Weeks - Second Trimester!

It's finally happened!  I'm out of that horrible first trimester!  Feeling great but I'm still sleeping a lot (like 12 hours last night a lot).  It may have something to do with being away in Sacramento all weekend being a bridesmaid in Jen's wedding.  It was a lovely affair and all went very smoothly.  I never knew standing and looking pretty in front of people was so tiring! I don't have many pictures, but Jake took this cute one of me and Charlotte before the wedding.  Charlotte made those flower bouquets!  More pictures to come when I can get my hands on them.  Jen looked fabulous as well.

On our way home from Sacramento we stopped at Ikea to look at baby stuff.  We're not sure what to do with a crib - get something between $100-$200 at Ikea that looks okay (and quickly looks worn) or get something $500+ at a nice store (like Land of Nod) that will look great for years and can be converted into a nice toddler bed when the time comes.  I did get a crib duvet cover and baby blankets because they had an adorable vegetable pattern.  It's hard to see in the photo but it has tomatoes, artichokes, carrots and the like wearing pants.  They also had matching swaddling blankets.  The nursery might be veggie themed!  Ikea also had some great fabric for curtains but the pattern went the wrong way for our needs.  I've got awhile to deal with this so I can take my time deciding.

Not much else to report but I'm working 5 days before I leave for Michigan on June 1st.  I really enjoyed getting out of town last weekend and am really looking forward to getting out of state for awhile.  It's been a long time!  Jake will be insanely busy over the next two weeks because he's hosting an academic conference at our house the first week of June, wrapping up his class and preparing for graduation stuff (friends are graduating).

I hope to get some belly photos soon because my stomach is popping out a bit.  Especially after I eat!  Until next time...

Week 12 - "There's nothin' wrong with this baby."

According to the genetic ultrasound technician Dr. Salvay!  Thursday we went in the for genetic test where they measure different parts of the anatomy to test for Down's syndrome.  Everything is normal so far.  I also had 7 tubes of blood taken (and the bruise to prove it!) and the results that are trickling in look good as well.  I love that I can see my results online within a few days.  I don't have my blood count back yet which I predict will show a little anemia.  It's pretty normal in pregnancy since all this extra plasma dilutes the red blood cells and also I've noticed I bruise really easy and the bruises last for a long time.  I should take extra iron probably but I can't handle any more supplements at this point.  Also, I think I'm starting to show a teensy bit, but it also looks and feels like bloat.  I've gained a few pounds back since my initial 6 pound loss, but I'm not yet up to my original weight.  I feel like I'm eating a ton lately though!  Feels good after those few weeks of starvation.

Last Tuesday we went to a birth fair which gave us an introduction to the available birth resources here in Santa Cruz.  It definitely had a hippie vibe, of course, but we got to meet 2 of the midwives from our doctor's practice and got some info on diaper services and prenatal yoga stuff.   Lots of decisions to make over the next few months regarding who we want to be involved with the prenatal, birth and postnatal times.

In other news, Jen's wedding is next weekend and I'm mostly prepared for that.  I only work Wednesday this week, have an eight hour class tomorrow and a salon appointment on Tuesday.  Another full week but I'm looking forward to a weekend getaway, even if it is in the suburbs of Sacramento!  Also looking forward to Jen's happy day.

Today we went to the Bonny Doon Firehouse's annual un-pancake breakfast which is a fundraiser for the department.  We went with Sandra, Sage and River and those boys were super excited to be around the fire trucks.  It was hard to get Sage to leave!
Jake bought a little present for the unborn:

A little red onsie size 0-6 with an antique fire truck on it.  So cute.  We bought River the same one last year but it's in a bigger size.  We'll probably inherit that one so Pumpkin will be promoting the fire house for a full year!  So far we have one onsie and one diaper (a sample from the birth fair).  As Jake put it, we are set for about 2 hours of baby care taking!

11 Weeks (well, tomorrow...)

And I'm over 25% done with pregnancy!  This ultrasound was taken at 9.5 weeks and it's somewhere between the size of an olive and a plum.  It's little arm buds are so cute!  Doc said everything looks good so far and gave me a prescription for Zofran to help with the nausea.  That stuff is great!

Over the past week I've felt a lot better.  No throwing up and nausea only once in a while.  Between weeks 5-10 the stomach pain was just unbearable and that has subsided as well.  I've lost 5 pounds but in the past week have been eating a lot.  I'm even up in the middle of the night scarfing something down!

This is from a few weeks ago, but if this doesn't say "pregnant lady", I don't know what does!

I'm tolerating more variety of foods than this now which is great, because I am really getting sick of cereal and hate drinking milk.  I even ate 2 salads and am drinking lots of water!  Felt great.  I'm also able to cook a little but nothing fancy.  Jake's happy about this because nightly cooking is not his usual routine.

In preparation of the little one, we bought a new car, a Volkswagen Diesel Wagon.  It's for safety!  We sold the clunky old Volvo to a friend so at least we don't have to deal with finding a buyer for that thing.  I also just got a new windshield on the Prius because a little crack that was there for years suddenly spread.   Turnip doesn't like the new car too much because the seats are vinyl and she just slips and slides around in the back.  Poor thing holding on for dear life!  I guess the Prius will be the Turnip and work mobile.

Jake has been in a nesting mood and trying to get me to live like a real adult (read: stop living like a slob!).  We had to get rid of our weekly housekeeper so now we have to figure out how to clean this place.  (I haven't mopped a floor in almost 2 years!)  I however, am not nesting and wanting to sleep all the time when I'm not working.  Growing a baby is more exhausting than it looks......

In two weeks we'll be in Sacramento for Jen's wedding.  I'm a bridesmaid for the first time ever.  Got the dress, wedding present and will be heading towards the salon a few days before the big day.  Looking forward to meeting Jen's friends and Jake will be meeting Lance for the first time.    Here's the wedding website for some cute photos of the happy couple!
